World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extended contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51 million spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American viewership was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen various languages.
