An extensive two-month voyage through the Australian Coast is being halted following the fatal incident of an senior woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a rest. The vessel sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the crew became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her body the following day.

Officials are investigating the event, alongside police and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer said that guests and personnel on the ship were notified that the rest of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he mentioned that guests would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" banning any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in the port city upon its arrival.

The ship initially left the Australian port on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the time of the 80-year-old's passing. The remote island was the first stop on the journey.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her family was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the island after an scheduled outing without my mother".

Through her comments, she portrayed her parent as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a affiliate of a walking group.

Via official communication, the Head confirmed that the organization was "working closely with investigators to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had provided its full support to the relatives.

The ship serves up to 120 travelers with nearly fifty personnel, according to company details. It was specifically designed to reach distant locations of the Australian coastline and is equipped with "small boats" - small boats used to transport travelers on day excursions.
